Does heaven help those who help themselves or is it those who cannot help themselves that receive heaven's help.
I suppose people on both sides of the divide can find Biblical support for their stance.
I'm thinking of the lepers who took a risk to try and find food when their country was at war with a country that employed starvation as battle strategy.
I'm thinking of Jonathan and his servant who took a risk and went into enemy territory to try and prove God and discern His will.
Then there's Mordecai and Esther...
"...if I perish, I perish".
How might these stories have panned out had the people not taken any steps to try and change or improve their situation?
And then there's the man at the pool, waiting for the stirring of the water. After thirty eight years, maybe today would be his day!
"I have no one to help me", he told Jesus when Jesus asked if he wanted to be healed.
There's also King Jehoshaphat who told God, "We do not even know what to do but our eyes are upon You".
And there's the three Hebrew boys in the furnace.
Daniel in the Lion's den.
And the Israelites, a nation enslaved by overbearing taskmasters....
Who does heaven help?
I notice a common theme in all of these stories.
God always keeps His word.
His word will not return to Him without accomplishing the purpose for which it was sent.
In all of these stories, God was fulfilling His word.
So who does heaven help?
I'd say the one who knows God's word and brings it back to Him in prayer.
Faith in God is never misplaced — you will not be disappointed.
